On Thursday, Sept. 8, community association management company Legum and Norman will host the Fore! Associa Cares Golf Tournament at The Peninsula’s Golf and Country Club.
The tournament will be raising money for Associa Cares, a new non-profit organization established by Legum and Norman’s new parent company. Associa Cares was created to assist families and communities that are in crisis as a result of a disaster.
“Basically, it’s a charity,” explained Aaren Piscitella, Legum and Norman assistant general manager. “If your home is affected – whether it’s a fire or a hurricane – we would send the family’s name to the board and draw the names, and they send money to help out.”
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the tournament kicking off at 10 a.m., to be followed by lunch at 3 p.m.
The tournament, held on a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, will be played as a scramble with four-person teams. Registration costs $125 per person or $500 for a team of four. The registration fee includes a golf cart, access to the driving range, and a continental lunch before the tournament and a sandwich lunch following it.
“We’re hoping to raise over 10,000,” Piscitella said. “The tournament will be the main fundraiser, but we will have door prizes there.”
Prizes will be awarded for the longest drive, hole-in-one and closest-to-the-pin. Participants will also have a chance to win a “basket of cheer,” filled with various libations.
“We have a Coach bag for some of the ladies that may come. We have a couple of putters,” she said. “We have a lot of gift certificates to restaurants in the area, as well as the Ocean City area, as well as some of the local golf courses, like Cripple Creek and Bear Trap.”
Those who aren’t able to support Associa Cares by playing in the tournament can consider sponsorship instead. With a $100, they can be a “Fill your Heart” sponsor, which will allow the sponsor to place a promotional item of their choice in the golfers’ goody bags.
Piscitella said that, although this is the first year for the tournament, she has high hopes for its success.
“I hope we raise our money,” she said. “This is the first annual tournament, and, hopefully, we will continue doing it each year after this.”
