The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Monthly Screening series will feature all five of this year’s Oscar-nominated live-action shorts at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at DiFebo’s in Bear Trap Dunes
Screening short films in the short month of February seems fitting. The audience will delight in seeing drama, comedy and science fiction in the best short films from five countries. The nominees for the 2011 Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action) are the following: The comedic drama “Pentecost”, the family drama “Raju”, the drama “The Shore,” science fiction comedy “Time Freak” and comedic drama “Tuba Atlantic.”
Following the screening, local film critic Rob Rector will lead the audience in a discussion about what makes each film eligible for consideration. Audiences at both screenings will be given the opportunity to vote for the favorite of these nominees, and the film society will report the results in the next weekly email.
Monthly screenings are $4 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented), and $6 for future members. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for each event. Attendees of the Ocean View screening at DiFebo’s get 10 percent off their meal on the evening of the screening and are permitted to carry beverages into the screening room. DiFebo’s begins serving dinner at 4:30 p.m.; reservations and early arrivals for dinner are encouraged.
